Should I get Professor Layton and the Curious Village or skip to Diabolical Box?

I'm interested in picking up a Professor Layton title for the DS. According to the reviews, the sequel seems better than the original. Would playing the first in the series benefit me at all or should I just pick up Diabolical Box, as it scored higher overall?

Thank you!|||While the Diabolical Box has its own main story, it's part of a trilogy with recurring characters and a sub-plot running through all three games ... so players would get more out of the sequel after having already played the Curious Village

For example, one of the early cut scenes in the Diabolical Box wouldn't have the same impact without knowing the back story, possibly wouldn't make as much sense and (if you're paying attention) spoils one of the significant Curious Village plot twists

Saying that, the Diabolical Box can be played without problem if you really didn't want to start with the Curious Village

Both games are very similar in graphic style, gameplay and the types of puzzles

Which game is better, harder or has the best story is simply personal opinion with different players having different views (which may, of course, be different to your own opinion)

Really though, unless you intend buying just one of the games, the Curious Village is the better one to start with and also offers the cheaper entry point

Whether you would enjoy the series (84% of players think it's awesome, although it's not everyone's cup of tea as Layton might say) largely depends on whether you would enjoy solving the types of puzzles the game offers

You may find it useful to glance over the illustrated walkthroughs so you can see for yourself what to expect from the game (types of puzzles, graphics, general gameplay, etc)
